In the Mayan calendar indirectly implied that life in this world will experience a major event at the end of the year 2012. At that time, the world will be hit by major disasters and chaos going on everywhere which resulted in destruction of the human race. Curtis Jackson (John Cusack) is just one of the first inhabitants of the earth is not too sure of this prediction.
Once upon a horrific incident happened in Guatemala. Hundreds of people decide to kill myself because believing ancient Mayan prophecy was true. IHC (Institute for Human Continuity), a secret organization that has been investigating this prediction eventually came to the conclusion that what was predicted hundreds of years ago was true. Convinced that there must be ‘way out’ of this catastrophe, IHC then build a large ship just below the Himalayan mountains.
The plan, they would repeat of Noah age and trying to save as many people as possible to the human race is not extinct after this major disaster. Outside estimates, the Earth’s plates shift was happening faster than scientists expected the IHC. In an instant, while the Los Angeles destroyed North Africa and Italy also did not escape from this great disaster.
Now, the fate of mankind in the hands of IHC. Curtis Jackson with Kate (Amanda Peet), his ex-wife, and their two children, Noah (Liam James) and Lilly (Morgan Lily) must compete with time to get to the foot of the Himalayas, or they will become victims of this catastrophe.
The film begins with scenes located in India. A local scientist, Dr. Satnam Tsurutani (Jimi Mistry) found that the core of the Earth’s crust the temperature increases due to the effects caused by a large explosion on the surface of the sun (sun flare).
According to the calculations of experts, the impact of the explosion made a motion at the core of the earth. As a result, the Earth’s plates that had been sustaining the land on earth will be broken and will cause an earthquake which is very powerful.
On the basis of that calculation, Dr Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a friend of Dr. Satnam, make a report to the White House that the end will come. Adrian met the president’s chief of staff, Carl Anheuser (Oliver Platt). Carl is originally underestimated the findings continue to heat up the earth’s surprised and responded immediately.
The findings are then brought to the meeting of G8 countries in 2010. On that occasion, President of the United States Thomas Wilson (Danny Glover) convey to the officials of the world that the earth will be hit by disaster-related core of the earth that continues to heat up.
Since it began a major plan is executed. All countries agreed to choose China as a place to make a large ark, perhaps similar to Noah’s ark, the other not to be used when a large disaster arrived.

When camping, Curtis met Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson), a radio broadcaster who looked like a madman. Charlie told that the earth will be hit by devastating disasters. Through Charlie Curtis also know that Charlie had a map of the location of the aircraft that can save mankind from disaster.
Curtis was forced to leave early, when the former wife requested that the children be returned. Kate little trauma because she had just experienced an earthquake. After the children returned to her mother’s house, Curtis back on duty took her boss’s twins, Yuri Karpov (Zlatko Buric).
Curtis began to believe Charlie’s talk about the end when he watched the road at the airport divided by the earthquake. Curtis then took the initiative to charter a plane and a pilot to save his family paid his expensive watch.
From here the tension begins. Resurrection predicted many parties going on, starting from earthquakes everywhere. Curtis had raced to the house to fetch his wife Kate and their children.
After successfully saving her family plus her boyfriend, Gordon Silberman (Tom McCarthy) Curtis limousinnya immediately to the airport spur. Invited audience held their breath to see the luxury car weaving to avoid the buildings collapsed and roads are open for devastating earthquake.
This group arrived at the airport. But damn, Curtis hired pilots were killed. Gordon finally had a pilot course to be a pilot didapuk impromptu. Race against time, the plane was finally airborne. From the plane they saw a tremendous disaster. Everything is destroyed and devastated.
At the White House, Dr Adrian got word that the increase in the earth’s core temperature continues to rise rapidly. This makes Adrian miss estimates because of surprise. Rapture come sooner. Government soon to the rescue. Unfortunately President Thomas refused evacuation to China. He chose to stay with his people.
Finally, a thousand-meter-high tsunami struck the White building and everything in it. Even so fierce, the aircraft carrier John F Kennedy CV-63 was flying up to hit the White House.
The earthquake and tsunami occurred in all parts of the world. Earth suffered total destruction. It is told that the south and north pole has shifted. All the land shifted a thousand miles from the original location.
In that disaster, few people could survive, including the party aboard Air Force One that moved to China, to the “Noah’s Ark” was made. It turned out unexpectedly Curtis and his family get to China using Antonov aircraft which Piloted Shasha, Yuri’s men, and the Gorgon as a copilot.
Curtis entourage then left by the twins Yuri and because they had a ticket up to the big ship. In desperation, Curtis and family got a lift a monk who was headed to the giant ship.
Here again the audience is made tense, because suddenly the door opened vessel. Gordon was a victim. But when the door is closed another vessel, a utensil fell and jammed the door cogs. They are on board panicked, because the engine will not start if the door is still open. And then, a mountain-high tsunami was headed toward the ship.
In broad outline, to mention a good movie or not can be seen from the two categories. The first is a film purely as visual spectacle while the second is a film that combines many elements like script, directing, acting, moral message, the logic into a single herb is interesting not only from the visual side. For short film, 2012, this first category may be more suitable.
Problem creating ‘replica of destruction’, Roland Emmerich, the director is not a new one. Armed with experience handling INDEPENDENCE DAY and THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, the promise that 2012 will be the film ‘disaster’ largest to date may simply be fulfilled. Moreover, the production cost of about U.S. $ 260 million from Sony Pictures Entertainment, this film will certainly be able to exceed the earlier work of Roland.
Visually, there’s nothing wrong with this movie. Visual effects used to show scenes of destruction of the earth was first class and amazing. It can be said from the beginning to the end of the movie audience will be riveted in my seat watching ‘magnificent’ visual effects are presented. Unmitigated, more than two hours you will be spoiled with this visual treat. Pure visual treat.
The rest, not much given this film. The idea of the story is not something new because rumors about the end of the world’s been around long enough. And it also became one of the key success of this film. This film is actually very simple and will not spend more than an hour to menuturkannya but because that is not its primary purpose as long as the duration of 158 can be achieved.
